Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy (born January 23, 1998), also known by his stage name XXXTentacion, is an American rapper and hip hop artist. Despite being a controversial figure in the hip hop scene, he is known to have a history of crimes. In 2016, he assaulted a romantic partner and threatened to cut out her tongue. He did it again when she told the rapper she was pregnant, he allegedly assaulted her, threatened to kill her, and locked her in an apartment. Despite this, X has left a mark on the hip hop genre and the lives of young fans ever since he started releasing hits. He gained fame when he began releasing early tracks on SoundCloud in 2014, and eventually began releasing the tracks to the public.
On 18 June, 2018, Onfroy was shot when leaving a motorsports store in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The attackers fled the scene after stealing a Louis Vuitton bag that contained $50,000. The rapper was rushed to the hospital, but was released four days after the shooting. On the day of the shooting, Onfroy had driven to the RIVA Motorsports store with his uncle. When he entered, two men followed him inside, but when he exited and was exiting the parking lot, a black Dodge Journey SUV containing the men blocked his car from exiting. Two men exited the SUV and walked over to the BMW, where an altercation ensued. One of the men told Onfroy to remove jewellery from around his neck, but the rapper resisted and declined their request. Trayvon Newsome, another one of the two, went round to the right side of the car and proceeded to steal the Louis Vuitton bag belonging to the rapper, which contained $50,000. Michael Boatwright fired a few shots into the car before they fled the scene. After recovering from the bullet wounds he suffered, X uploaded a video to his Instagram, telling viewers he had been badly injured.
On 4 September, 2020, Onfroy released his new track “Rest in Power” as a tribute to actor Chadwick Boseman, who died a few days earlier on 28 August of colon cancer.
